My Conversation with Expansión magazine on Venture Capital and Impact

I recently sat down with Expansión, one of Mexico’s leading business magazines, to share an update on what we are building at Dalus Capital.

At Dalus Capital, my venture capital fund, we believe that funding tech should generate a positive impact for society and the planet in addition to financial returns. So, we focus on three themes that represent large opportunities in Latin America:

  • Inclusion: Expanding access to finance, health, and education.
  • Business Productivity: Backing digital tools, now very AI-focused, that make SMEs more competitive.
  • Climate: Funding direct solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Siempre disfruto las buenas conversaciones sobre el estado del venture capital y el emprendimiento en nuestra región. Hace poco tuve el gusto de platicar con Mónica Mistretta, Maricela Ochoa y Francisco Iglesias, el gran equipo editorial de IT Masters Mag.

Fue una charla sobre el ecosistema de emprendimiento en México. Conversamos sobre sus particularidades, los retos actuales y las características que definen a los emprendedores mexicanos que buscan escalar y construir empresas de impacto.

José Manuel is the founder and CEO of Algramo, one of the circular economy startups in which we have invested from Dalus. Fernando is developing an electric Tuk Tuk for Mexico City.

Our investment thesis for Clip

Recently Clip became the first Mexican unicorn in fintech by raising a $250 million dollar financing round at a valuation close to $2 billions. An amazing and well-deserved achievement for Adolfo Babatz and his team at Clip. I’m very happy and humbled to have been able to join Adolfo and Clip in this journey since almost the beginning. At Dalus I led our investment in their seed round and later led their Series A financing round.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to share and discuss our investment thesis at the time we invested in Clip. We are very proud that Clip’s path and results were close to what we envision in our investment analysis which resulted in our investment in 2013.
