Muchas corporaciones en México no entienden que tienen que cambiar su forma de hacer negocios y especialmente como tratan a sus clientes. Fui testigo de uno de estos casos esta semana. El corporativo: Telcel, el negocio en México de América Móvil quién es el operador celular más grande México.
Un startup recién creado necesitaba obtener dos líneas celulares. Se presentaron en Telcel como primera opción. Grave error. Les pedían una cantidad absurda de documentos incluyendo el acta constitutiva, RFC (el identificador fiscal) y comprobante de domicilio. Este último a nombre de la empresa, lo cual se volvía una imposibilidad al ser un startup sin ningún servicio contratado. Ah, y todo en original y copia! Además que tenia que estar el representante legal de la empresa en persona. Una burocracia privada peor que la de cualquier gobierno. Continue reading
Recent events provide evidence that the development of the Mexican entrepreneurial ecosystem continues with no pause. One event was that in the last two weeks two Mexican startups – Kueski (short-term online loans) and Cornershop (online grocery shopper) – raised interesting Series A rounds at sizable sizes for Mexico with investors from the US leading or participating in the rounds. [I had a recent interview with Adalberto Flores from Kueski, previous to the announcement of the investment, that you can read here.]
The other event, probably more transcendental, was that AMEXCAP – the Mexican Private Equity and Venture Capital Association – appointed a VC guy, Alonso Diaz, as Chairman last week. What do you do currently?
I’m a Managing Director at Silicon Valley Bank and Head of our Global Gateway team, which is responsible for certain new and emerging markets including Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Russia, Turkey, Australia and India. SVB is the leading bank for the innovation economy in the US, we bank more than half of all US VC backed technology companies and most of the VC firms that invest in technology companies. We have been expanding internationally for more than 15 years, and our efforts on our Global Gateway team fall under our global efforts. Continue reading
