What do you do currently?
I’m Managing Partner at B37 Ventures, a Silicon Valley based VC specialized in the rapid internationalization of technology startups.
How and when did you get involved with the Mexican entrepreneurial ecosystem?
I began working at Gerbera Capital in 2009, that was my first contact with Mexican VC’s.
How would you describe the ecosystem in Mexico?
Limited. Although starting to get some traction, the size and number of deals is too small to constantly execute a VC strategy.
What do you expect in the next 12 months?
Same number of deals and traction across the ecosystem.
What are the main challenges?
Entrepreneurs don’t think big enough. VC is power law driven and only the top performers drive returns. If those top performers aren’t 30x to 100x, industry returns will not be competitive with other asset classes.
What change or result would bring the greatest benefits for the ecosystem?
Taking entrepreneurs to Silicon Valley, helping them think big.
Describe your typical day
70% meeting with entrepreneurs (3 to 4 meetings a day), 30% fund operations (reporting, taxes, hiring, etc).
Who is your favorite entrepreneur?
Jeff Bezos.
A recent book do you recommend?
Play Bigger: How Pirates, Dreamers, and Innovators Create and Dominate Markets.
Smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop?
Laptop.
iOS or Android?
iOS.
Favorite App?
Google Translate.
Favorite social network?
Instagram.
Ideal vacation?
Cruise.
What are your goals for the next 12 months?
Grow AUM 40%, 3 new deals.
One word that describes you?
Enthusiastic.
