Just saw this spot-on cartoon by Ruben Bolling, and I had to share it. It brilliantly shows the grim reality of climate deniers, a topic I dug into just a few days ago. Check out my previous post here.

As an active climate change activist, I’ve been arguing with climate change deniers for a while. Through these often painful and frustrating experiences, I’ve learned that not all climate deniers are cut from the same cloth. So, I decided to identify some key profiles.
For those unfamiliar with the term, climate deniers are individuals who reject the scientific consensus that global warming and climate change are happening and are being caused by human activities, mainly through the use of fossil fuels. Unfortunately, and quite shockingly, there’s no shortage of climate deniers out there. It’s essential to recognize that most climate deniers are likely victims of misinformation, often stirred up by the oil sector and other groups eager to maintain the status quo.

Continue readingRecently I was asked the following question in a chat group of former colleagues. I wrote the response below and thought I would share it with you.
Question: “Diego, based on what you’ve studied, what are the 3 things that need to be done to halt/stop/reverse global warming? The question is simple, but there’s so much noise on the topic that it seems difficult to discern the ‘indicated actions’.”

I’m delighted to share that I was recently a guest on the superb podcast, “Mentors Today“. In a lively conversation with hosts Rob and Ileana, we covered a range of topics, from my journey in venture capitalism to the shaping of Latin America’s entrepreneurial landscape, and my steadfast dedication to climate change mitigation.

At first glance, you might mistake this image for modern abstract art. Strips of shifting colors, each telling its own story. However, they represent a stark reality that’s impacting us all. Reflecting what many of us have been witnessing firsthand on the ground, the serious dip in startup investment that began at the end of 2021 is still present in the first quarter of 2023, dropping to a meager $0.8B dollars from the impressive but unsustainable $5.2B peak in Q3 2021.

Recently, my son, who is currently studying at university, shared a revelation with me that I was already expecting: most of his classmates are producing their assignments mainly by using ChatGPT. Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are artificial intelligence systems trained on vast amounts of text data to generate human-like responses and provide assistance with various language tasks.
This reliance on LLMs for every writing task might be an early warning sign that humans, especially the younger generations, will lose touch with the essential skills of critical thinking, creativity, and language proficiency. As we continue to witness remarkable advancements in language technology, tools like ChatGPT will become an integral part of our lives. The seamless generation of well-structured and coherent text – although with some “hallucinations” every now and then – at the touch of a button undoubtedly will make our lives more convenient. However, we cannot ignore the potential consequences of an overreliance on these tools. Are we, as a society, heading towards a decline in our ability to write logically, just as calculators have impacted our mathematical capabilities?
