Why We Doubled Down on the Darwin AI Team
What makes this investment special for me is the team. Darwin is led by Lautaro Schiaffino and Ezequiel Sculli, fantastic entrepreneurs who I’m also happy to call good friends.
This is our second time backing them. My fund led the Series A for their first startup, Sirena, where I had the privilege of serving on the board. They built an essential software layer for WhatsApp that solved a chaotic problem for businesses across Latam, leading to a successful acquisition by Zenvia.
Now, with Darwin AI, they are leveraging that experience. This points to a powerful trend I’m seeing across the region: the rise of the serial entrepreneur. Founders on their second or third go-around have a distinct advantage—a proven playbook, deeper networks, and hard-won experience. This combination dramatically increases the probability of success, and it’s a clear signal that the Latin American startup ecosystem is maturing. Investing in Darwin AI isn’t just about backing a great idea; it’s about backing a proven team that knows how to build and win. Continue reading
