Images of downtown Mexico City

Mexico City is an amazing place. It was founded in 1325 by the Mexicas with the name of México-Tenochtitlan and conquered by the Spaniards in 1521. First it was the capital of the Aztec empire and then became the capital of the conquered Mexico.

Today, Mexico City and the surrounding metropolitan area has 21 million people (Mexico City alone has 8.8 million), being the most populated city in the Americas. Its GDP is above $486 billion dollars; alone would be the fifth largest economy in Latin America.

Mexico City’s downtown is an amazing place, full of historical buildings, street vendors and people from all over Mexico, including some very weird ones. Below are some images from a Sunday walk through its downtown.
